Among all the manufacturers of Nordic vintage, Rörstrand is easily one of the most acclaimed, looking back at a rich and long history and tradition that started as far back as the early 18th century. Vintage Rörstrand dishes & dinnerware are therefore some of the most prized among fans of Nordic vintage with many of their timeless designs reaching iconic status.

A short history of Rörstrand
Founded in the Rörstrand castle in Stockholm, 1726, Rörstrand is one of the oldest ceramic factories in Europe second only to Meissen. The factory started with the production of faience with the goal to saturate the Swedish market in order to make the country more independent from other exporting countries.
For the next 150 years, the techniques and designs used at Rörstrand were constantly developing to ensure the highest possible quality and to account for the various different trends at the time. Even as far back as the 19th century, Rörstrand was already a household name in Sweden and the origin of a large share of the ceramics used in the country. The factory then started the production of porcelain in the later half of the century.
The complete breakthrough of Rörstrand on the international stage began in the 20th century, starting with the very successful Art Noveau style ceramics designed under Alf Wallander. Towards the middle of the century, hit sets like Swedish Grace or Ostindia made a further impact on the market both domestic and international. By that time, the factory had moved from Stockholm to Gothenburg.
Today’s image of Rörstrand as Nordic Vintage is probably most influenced by the porcelain designs of the great “Porcelain Mom” Marianne Westman. Vintage dinnerware sets like Picknick, Annika or extremely popular Mon Amie made in Sweden are famous and sought-after to this day.
Although the brand suffered some setbacks in recent times, the overwhelming success of past decades still makes Rörstrand one of the greatest manufacturers of Nordic vintage ceramics.
